In order to respond to the strategic positioning of building Beijing into a national cultural center, to give full play to the advantages of our university's relevant disciplines, to serve the cultural construction of the capital, and to promote the development of disciplines and professions, in January 2018, Beijing Jiaotong University and the Yuanmingyuan Administration jointly established the "Beijing Jiaotong University Yuanmingyuan Research Institute". BJTU and the Yuanmingyuan Administration will use the Institute as a platform to carry out in-depth scientific research and practical cooperation in the fields of architecture, urban and rural planning, landscape architecture, heritage restoration, heritage conservation, cultural creativity, visual communication, media operation, project management and other disciplines.

Since the establishment of the Yuanmingyuan Research Institute of Beijing Jiaotong University, it has undertaken research on the design of the guidance signage system of Yuanmingyuan, research on the technical standards of the GIS management system of Yuanmingyuan, research on the design of public restrooms in Yuanmingyuan, research on the cultural gene mapping of Yuanmingyuan, design of the cultural and creative product development and operation scheme of Yuanmingyuan, design of public service facilities for tourism in Yuanmingyuan Layout of facilities, digital restoration and display technology path of Yuanmingyuan architectural sites Research, research and publication on the construction of the Yuanmingyuan during the Yongzheng period, research on the water system of the Yuanmingyuan and the design of the boat dock, research on the comprehensive application of visual image design for cultural tourism in the Yuanmingyuan, research and publication on the restoration of the ruins of the Purple Mountain House in the Yuanmingyuan, etc. have contributed to the protection and development of the heritage of the Yuanmingyuan site, and have contributed to making the Yuanmingyuan an innovative platform for Chinese traditional culture and a second classroom for national education. The establishment of the Institute and the development of its various projects have contributed to the preservation and development of the Yuanmingyuan site. The establishment of the Institute and the launch of various projects are also of great practical significance for telling the Chinese story, spreading Chinese culture, building a strong cultural nation, promoting the exchange and interaction of world civilizations, providing Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions for other countries to carry out cultural heritage protection and utilization, and showing China's image as a great power and cultural soft power.

In October 2020, the Yuanmingyuan Research University Alliance was first advocated in the Yuanmingyuan Research Institute of Beijing Jiaotong University, and received positive responses from research institutions of various universities. With the strong support of the Yuanmingyuan Administration, the university alliance of Yuanmingyuan research was officially established on October 17, 2020, and Beijing Jiaotong University became the first alliance chairman unit.

In 2021, the "International Symposium on Research and Conservation of Yuanmingyuan and the Second Exhibition on the Achievements of

Yuanmingyuan Research University Alliance" co-organized by Yuanmingyuan Research University Alliance and Beijing Jiaotong University was successfully held; the "First Yuanmingyuan Creative Design Competition" organized by Yuanmingyuan Research University Alliance and Beijing Jiaotong University Yuanmingyuan Research Institute was successfully launched, taking the cooperation between Yuanmingyuan Research University Alliance and Yuanmingyuan Administration to a new level. The first Yuanmingyuan Cultural and Creative Design Competition" was successfully launched, which pushed the cooperation between the Yuanmingyuan Research Institute of Beijing Jiaotong University and the Yuanmingyuan Administration to a new level.

Up to now, the members of Yuanmingyuan Research University Alliance have completed more than 70 scientific research projects, involving many disciplines such as garden restoration, cultural excavation, planning and design, water conservancy and plant protection, visual communication and cultural and creative art.
