The Future Cities Co-Laboratory was established by the Institute of Urban Planning and Design of Beijing Jiaotong University and the School of Architecture, Art, Planning and Design of the University of Cincinnati. The Co-Laboratory was established with the idea that a better urban future and a better quality of urban life are the common dreams of researchers and governmental decision makers in both Chinese and American cities. The purpose of the lab is to strengthen research cooperation between the U.S. and China in the field of urbanism and architecture, and to promote the exchange of scholars, teaching and disciplinary platforms. The joint lab will apply new technologies such as information technology and data technology to analyze and research urban issues and build a research platform for creating a better urban environment in the future. Based on the principles of "transnational association, crossborder integration, cross-university openness, and collaborative innovation," the Joint Lab will focus on the application of new technologies, new methods, and new ideas in the field of cities and architecture in the context of big data, and will build the Joint Lab into an open, cross-disciplinary, and innovative research platform to promote cooperation between China and the United States in the fields of cities and architecture. platform for promoting cooperation in urban and architecture-related fields between China and the United States. The Future City Lab will focus on two key directions: information technology for urban research, and parametric design in architecture, and will provide a future-oriented and forward-looking exchange platform for Chinese and American students and scholars.

"The Consortium for Urban and Regional Transportation aims to provide support for collaborative research and reciprocal scholar visits in the field of urban and regional transportation planning. The Center will provide support for collaborative research and exchange of scholars in the field of urban and regional transportation planning. The Center will create opportunities for faculty and graduate students from BCTU and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to work together and promote collaborative research. The Center will also unite scholars from home and abroad to share research experiences and deepen understanding of urban and regional transportation in China and around the world. The establishment of the Beijing Jiaotong University-University of North Carolina Center for Urban and Regional Transportation Research will promote cooperation with North Carolina in three areas: teaching, research, and training, and promote the development of the discipline of urban planning and architecture. Specifically, the Center will be relied upon to carry out academic research and practical project cooperation in the development of urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas in China, the integration of land use and transportation planning, and to invite internationally renowned experts in related fields to conduct training on topics such as collaborative urban transportation development. The Center aims to draw on international experience to inform and inspire issues in the development of Chinese city clusters and metropolitan areas.

3Undertake research projects and international training

The current problems faced in rail transit construction for town ecology and landscape planning have become important topics for China's future urbanization, and TOD sustainable development and construction, railroad heritage protection, transportation landscape ecology, beautiful countryside construction and preservation of historical culture have also become the main research areas of the Institute. In response to these issues, the Institute of Urban Planning and Design of Beijing Jiaotong University has undertaken the practice of rail transit TOD development, transportation and urban cultural and ecological landscape planning, urban renewal and historic building preservation, community construction and rural revitalization planning to promote sustainable urban development and environmental renewal.
